Amidst the futuristic glitz and glamour of the Con, there is an organization that is more interested in the past than the future. The Society for Creative Anachronism is a non-profit organization dedicated to the study of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. During the Con, members are providing live melee and tournament-style combat demonstrations, but members are interested in all aspects of medieval life, including spinning, metal smithing, leather making and cooking.

DEL MAR — If it’s possible to blow the roof off of an arena that has no roof, Switchfoot did just that Friday with its grand performance at the San Diego County Fair. While performing in their native San Diego put members of the band in a particularly reflective mood, musically, they stayed true to the theme of this year’s fair by providing a performance that was truly “out of this world.”.
